A Bit About Us
Dark Horse Company was founded by Jean McAllister in Canmore, Alberta, Canada.
Jean has over 16 years experience working with Calgary advertising agencies as a designer, art director and creative director on local, national and international accounts.

Projects she has worked on have; raised over 15 million dollars for a hospital foundation, increased attendance to an international film festival by over 25%, successfully launched a computer gaming hardware product into North America, resulted in record attendance at a World Cup mountain bike event, and increased awareness of AIDS/HIV prevention in Alberta. Her work has won several awards in both print and digital media.

Clients Jean has worked with include; Parks Canada, Travel Alberta, Petro-Canada Certigard, AIDS Calgary, Calgary International Film Festival, Science Alberta Foundation, Royal University Hospital, Radiology Consultants, Mayfair Diagnostics, Alberta Council for Environmental Education, 24 Hours of Adrenaline, Chateau Mountain Sports, Gibson Pictures, NRG Enterprises, Waterford Press, Kootenay Mountain Culture, Bicycle Cafe, The Grateful Heart Foundation, Sunterra Market, Interpretive Guides Association, and The University of Calgary Faculty of Science. In March 2009, teaming-up with Rightline Consulting she completed an assessment of Parks Canada's backcountry media for the mountain parks.

For ten years she was a member of the Canadian National Cross Country Ski Team, and a 1988 Olympian. She was also on the National Mountain Bike Team and has a Coaching Level II certificate. She holds a B.A. with a major in Visual Communications, and graduated with distinction from the Alberta College of Art and Design. She has taught third year Information Design at the college.

Her partner, John Gibson, is a world renown sports photographer who has been published in hundreds of magazines, catalogues and books, including Sports Illustrated, Men's Journal, Outside Magazine and mountain bike publications worldwide.
